An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

TODAY: I really don’t think we get that much rain today; just a few passing showers, mainly on the western side of the state. And, not as warm as yesterday with a high in the low to mid 60s. But, no doubt we will be trending wetter in the days ahead.

TOMORROW: This looks like the day with the most widespread rain. We will forecast periods of rain and a few thunderstorms, with potential for 1 to 2 inches of rain. SPC maintains a slight risk of severe weather west of the state, and that risk does include for far southwest corner of Alabama around Mobile. The severe weather threat here still looks minimal tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow with as stable, rain-cooled air should prevail. Still, this is March and you know the deal; when it comes to thunderstorms, expect the unexpected.

THURSDAY: An interesting forecast here. It looks like the rain will end early in the day, maybe even during the pre-dawn hours. Then, a dry slot in the mid levels moves in, which should mean some decent intervals of midday sunshine. If the sun does break out, this will push temperatures into the low to mid 70s, which in turn will generate some decent surface based instability, especially over the western half of the state. Accordingly, we will need to mention a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms redeveloping Thursday afternoon, and some of those storms could pack a punch where they form.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 06Z GFS is trending farther south with the big upper low just north of here, which could keep Friday cloudy with a chance of showers statewide. Not a wash-out, but a few showers are very possible with a high in the 60s. Then, over the weekend, our weather trends drier as the upper low lifts out. I guess a shower is still possible Saturday, but they should be few and far between, and Sunday for now looks dry. We will be a bit cooler Saturday with highs in the 50s, followed by low 60s Sunday.

NEXT WEEK/SPRING BREAK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day outlook… at this time the weather looks dry across the Deep South Monday and Tuesday with seasonal temperatures, but a surface low shows up in the northern Gulf Wednesday with rain returning. The end of the week seems dry for now with colder temperatures.
