Midday Nowcast: Generally Sunny, Dry, and Warm through Easter Weekend

| April 17, 2025 @ 10:07 am

WARMING TREND AHEAD: The area of high pressure responsible for our amazing weather, has slid east into the Carolinas today, allowing our winds to become more southerly. This surface high along with an upper ridge will allow for much warmer weather all the way through the Easter weekend. The forecast through Saturday will feature generally sunny days with highs in the low to mid 80s through Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For April 17th, the average high for Birmingham is 75° and the average low is 52°. The record high is 90° set in 1955, while the record low is 33° set in 1986. We average 0.17” of precipitation on this date and the record value is 2.80” set in 1900.

EASTER SUNDAY: For those sunrise services Sunday morning, expect temperatures generally in the low to mid 60s. Sunday looks to remain dry, but it will be a warm and breezy day with highs in the 80s. Sunday night, we bring in a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm back into the forecast Sunday night ahead of a cold front.

The Storm Prediction Center has defined a risk of severe thunderstorms west of Alabama Sunday, but with the main dynamic support passing well to the north, the overall risk of severe storms here Sunday night looks low for now. Of course we will continue to monitor trends as things can change.

NEXT WEEK: The front looks to stall across the northern portions of the state, allowing for showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday, and in fact we will keep the chance of showers in the forecast for much of next week. However, rainfall amounts next week do not look especially heavy, less than an inch, but just know showers are possible at just about anytime.

Highs next week will remain in the 80s.

WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 122.7F at Cabinda, Angola. The lowest observation was -99.6F at Concordia, Antarctica.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 103F at Death Valley, CA. The lowest observation was 9F at Mount Washington, NH.
