Severe T-Storm Warning for Sumter Co. Until 5PM

| May 2, 2025 @ 4:19 pm

A severe thunderstorm is currently moving through central Sumter County in west central Alabama, and the National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a severe thunderstorm warning that will remain in effect until 5:00 PM.

As of 4:14 PM, radar indicates the storm was located near Boyd, or just west of Livingston, and it’s moving northeast at a slow 15 miles per hour.

This storm is capable of producing ping pong ball-size hail and 60 mile per hour wind gusts. The hail can cause damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and windows, and those strong winds could bring down trees and cause structural damage.

If you’re in or near Livingston, Boyd, Epes, Sumterville, or Payneville, it’s time to take cover. The safest place is an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

We’ll continue to monitor this storm and provide updates as needed. Stay weather-aware and take precautions.
