Severe T-Storm Warning for Blount, Cherokee, Etowah, St. Clair Co. Until 6:30PM

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 6:30 PM for eastern Blount County, Etowah County, northern St. Clair County, and Cherokee County in Alabama.

As of 5:20 PM, radar showed a line of strong to severe thunderstorms stretching from near Henagar down to near Nectar, all moving quickly east at about 55 miles per hour. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail as large as half dollars.

This line of storms is expected to impact areas including Whitney Junction, Weiss Dam, Hokes Bluff, Yellow Creek Falls, Cherokee Rock Village, Spring Garden, and parts of Gadsden and Attalla, among others. Folks in the path of these storms should be prepared for damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees.

If you’re in one of these areas, take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows, and remain weather aware until the threat passes.
