A severe thunderstorm warning is now in effect until 7:00 PM for north central Chilton County, southeastern Tuscaloosa County, Shelby County, Bibb County, Jefferson County, and southern St. Clair County in central Alabama.

At 5:23 PM, radar indicated a line of strong to severe storms extending from around Gardendale down toward Low Gap, pushing east at about 40 miles per hour. These storms are producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour along with quarter-size hail.

Areas in the path include Mountain Brook, Leeds, Westover, Helena, Oak Mountain State Park, Minooka Park, Liberty Park, American Village, Ensley, and parts of New Castle and Mulga. These storms could damage vehicles with hail and cause wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

If you’re in the warned area, it’s best to get to a sturdy shelter—preferably an interior room on the lowest floor. Stay away from windows and stay tuned to reliable sources for the latest updates as these storms move through.
