Tornado Emergency for Madison and Limestone Counties — Take Cover Now!

The National Weather Service in Huntsville continues a Tornado Warning for southwestern Madison County and southeastern Limestone County in north central Alabama, in effect until 6:45 PM CDT.

At 6:13 PM CDT, a confirmed tornado was on the ground near Tanner, or near Athens, moving east at 35 miles per hour. This is a dangerous situation. The tornado has been confirmed by public reports, and two inch hail is also possible with this storm. Flying debris will be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Expect damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles, and significant tree damage is likely.

The tornado will be near Madison around 6:20 PM, Huntsville around 6:25 PM, the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Redstone Arsenal around 6:30 PM, and Alabama A&M University around 6:35 PM. Other locations that may be affected include Belle Mina, French Mill, Mooresville, Capshaw, Ryland, Hampton Cove, Ripley, Brownsboro, and Farley.

A tornado is on the ground. Take cover immediately. Move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the nearest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. This is a life-threatening situation.
