Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southwestern Marion and Northeastern Lamar Counties Until 8:45 PM CDT

A severe thunderstorm is moving through parts of northwestern and west central Alabama this evening. At 8:11 PM CDT, the storm was located near New Salem, about 13 miles southeast of Fulton, and is moving east at 45 miles per hour.

This storm may produce wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail the size of quarters. These conditions can cause damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees.

Areas that may be affected include Hamilton, Guin, Detroit, Weston, Henson Springs, Byrd, Marion County Public Lake, Rankin Fite Airport, and Pikeville.

If you are in the warned area, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building to stay safe. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1:00 AM CDT for northwestern and west central Alabama. Stay alert for any changes.
