A severe thunderstorm is moving through northeastern Cherokee County near Sylvania and Fort Payne, traveling east at 40 miles per hour. This storm is producing damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail about the size of quarters.

The storm is expected to impact areas including Little River Canyon National Preserve, Gaylesville, Blanche, Little River Falls, Broomtown, Fullerton, New Moon, Chesterfield, and surrounding parts of the preserve. Hail may damage vehicles, and strong winds could cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

There is also heavy rain with the potential for flash flooding, so avoid driving through flooded roadways. Dangerous lightning is occurring with this storm, and you should move indoors immediately if you are outside. Remember, if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a building until the warning expires. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for northeastern Alabama until 1:00 AM CDT.
