Radar this morning showed a large area of showers and rain moving through Middle Tennessee with some of that rain area moving across the Tennessee River Valley. Across much of Central Alabama, however, rain was quite spotty and amounts very light. The atmosphere as of last night was very dry above about 4000 feet, so it appears likely that any significant severe weather will occur in Georgia where moisture will be much deeper. The SPC outlook centers on Georgia catching just a small section of extreme East Central Alabama. It will be cooler today with more clouds though it is possible we’ll see a few peeks at the sun. Also we should have a stiff southwesterly breeze ahead of the cold front which will come through Central Alabama this afternoon. Instability appears somewhat limited, too, with the NAM a tad more aggressive with CAPE than the GFS. The new sounding will be available in another hour or so, and that will help refine the forecast somewhat. I really expect to see storms the strongest in Georgia, however, the area between I-20 and I-85 east of I-65 will need to be watched for possible development during the afternoon and evening hours.

Once the upper trough goes by later today, that will pave the way for a dry week. Monday will still see some clouds with clearing expected by afternoon. Monday will also be our coldest day with highs reaching the mid and upper 50s. After that, surface high pressure will be firmly entrenched across the Southeast US along with a strong upper ridge. This combination will keep us dry and warm us up nicely with lows generally in the 40s and highs in the 70s from Wednesday through Saturday.

The next system could begin to affect us late Saturday and into Sunday. But this verges on voodoo country so timing might be off a bit. Looking ahead well out into voodoo country, the pattern remains active but not overly so. Look for another shot at rain around the 8th and again at the end of the period around the 12th.
