Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northern Fayette and East Central Lamar Counties Until 6:45 AM
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northern Fayette County and east central Lamar County until 6:45 AM CDT.
At 6:02 AM, a severe thunderstorm was located over Blooming Grove, about 8 miles east of Vernon, moving east at 40 mph.
Hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail. In fact, this is one of the best hail cores of the event so far.
Radar indicates this storm may cause hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Areas affected include Winfield, Fayette, Berry, Glen Allen, Blooming Grove, Bluff, Crossville, Bazemore, and Bevill State College Fayette.
If you are in the warning area, take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
