Flash Flood Warnings in Effect for Lamar, Pickens, and Cullman Counties as Heavy Rain Intensifies
Flash flood warnings are in effect this evening for parts of west central and north central Alabama, with a growing threat of flash flooding due to multiple rounds of heavy rain.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a flash flood warning for southern Lamar County and northwestern Pickens County until 11:30 PM CDT. Thunderstorms are producing very heavy rainfall, and flash flooding is either underway or expected to begin shortly. Impacted locations include Millport, Kennedy, Shaw, Melborne, and Forest.
Further north, the National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a flash flood warning for southern Cullman County until 11:45 PM CDT. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, and additional storms are moving in. The flash flood threat is increasing rapidly from near Smith Lake to Dodge City to Hanceville as new cells approach from the west.
Hazards in both areas include flooding of creeks, streams, streets, underpasses, and low-lying areas. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads, especially after dark.
