Hotter Than a Jalapeño’s Armpit This Afternoon; Slightly Hotter Tomorrow

| June 21, 2025 @ 11:15 am

As of 10:55AM, temperatures were ranging from the lower 80s to the lower 90s across the state. Andalusia was the hot spot at 91 degrees, while Gadsden was the cool spot at 81 degrees. Birmingham was at 85 degrees. Highs are forecast to get up into the upper 80s to the mid 90s, and add the higher humidity levels, we can see heat index values at or over 100 degrees today for most places. A heat advisory is in effect until 7PM tonight for Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties in Central Alabama, and for Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale counties in North Alabama.

As far as a cooling relief today, there is a chance of scattered showers and storms, less likely for the northern half of the state, and more likely in the south. However, those overall rain chances are small for any location in the state. And no matter where those form, they will be brief, but may contain gusty winds and heavy rain. Any storms will die off as we reach the evening news time, and we’ll be dry and humid tonight. The bad news is that overnight lows will only fall into the lower 70s, which means temperatures will climb rather quickly tomorrow morning.

Speaking of tomorrow, weather conditions will be very similar to what we see today… hot, humid, and a small chance of scattered showers and storms. Afternoon highs look to top out into the lower to mid 90s, with heat index values once again reaching 100 degrees plus for most locations.

The tropics are quiet and no new tropical systems are expected to form over the next seven days. Modelling shows that upper level winds will be too high to allow those systems to form.
