| October 24, 2010 @ 10:08 am | 1 Reply

Richard has been upgraded to a hurricane this morning on the basis of Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter reports. Top winds are now 85 mph. It is less than 75 miles from the coast of Belize now, and moving west northwest at 10 mph. The central pressure is 991 mb.

You can follow the Belize radar today here.

The Belize radar shows a nearly complete eyewall. This indicates further strengthening is likely before landfall and Richard is expected to have top winds of 100 mph when the center reaches land late this afternoon or early this evening.

It will spend tomorrow traversing the Yucatan Peninsula before it re-emerges over the southwestern Gulf early Tuesday. It will be a depression by then and be curving to the northwest. Conditions are not expected to be favorable for re-intensification over the Gulf, though and Richard should weaken to a remnant low by Thursday, to the southeast of Brownsville.

Here is the forecast track.
