MILD AFTERNOONS, COOL NIGHTS: What great weekend for Alabama. Dry air means sunny days with a high in the mid 60s today, around 70 tomorrow, and in the low 70s Sunday. Lows will be generally in the 40s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For tonight’s high school playoff games, the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from the upper 50s at kickoff into the upper 40s by the final whistle.

Tomorrow, UAB hosts Memphis at Legion Field with a 3:00 kickoff; the sky will be sunny with a temperature near 70 at kickoff, dropping to near 60 by the end of the game. Samford hosts The Citadel at 1:00 tomorrow; lots of sunshine with temperatures in the 67 to 70 degree range during the game. Jacksonville State will be in Cookville, Tennessee to take on Tennessee Tech (4:00 kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 65 at kickoff to around 52 by the end of the game.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Temperatures will rise up into the low to mid 70s Monday and Tuesday with a partly sunny sky. We will continue to mention a small risk of a shower Tuesday afternoon, but clearly the best chance of organized rain will be north of Alabama, along a very sharp Polar front that separates the very cold air over the northern states from the mild air over the Deep South. This front will creep southward, and will bring a round of showers and possible thunderstorms at some point in the Wednesday-Thursday time frame. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS suggests the main chance of rain will come Wednesday night into Thursday morning, but the exact timing remains a little unclear. The latest run is also not as wet, and doesn’t really suggest any severe weather threat, but other runs have looked more robust.

The weather should begin to turn cooler Thanksgiving Day as the rain ends, and Friday looks dry and rather cool for the shoppers and football fans. The 00Z GFS hints a high in the low to mid 50s Friday, but other runs have been colder. Considering the amount of cold air that is now in place over the northern part of the continent, the colder solution is probably correct.

VOODOO LAND: Still watching the big negative AO/NAO spike at the end of the month with great interest; that hints that a pretty cold pattern could be setting up in about 12-15 days, but the operational GFS is not on the bandwagon just yet.
