A Few Snowflakes

Skywatcher Chris Cheatwood reports a few snow flurries this morning in the WIlliams community north of Jacksonville in East Alabama’s Calhoun County.

It’s 37F and cloudy at the Anniston Airport with a north wind and 9 mph.

Obviously can’t rule out a few flakes here and there this morning.  Nothing showing up on radar since the precipitation is very light.

Anyone else see a few illegal flakes of snow out there?

Clouds cover a large part of the area generally from along and south of I-59 to US-82.   These are stratocumulus clouds that will slowly erode during the day as they seep south with the invading cold air.

More low stratocumulus clouds are over Tennessee and will spread into North Alabama during the day, but they will be slowly eroding as well.

There is a large break in the cloudiness over the Northwest corner of Alabama.  Sunshine is evident on the Skycams at Hamilton, Jasper and Cullman.  That clearing will spread into the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area in the next hour or so.

The sun won’t help much in  the temperature department, with highs today struggling to get very deep into the 40s.   A chilly north wind will pick up again during the day, making it feel even colder.  A wind advisory is in effect for all of Central Alabama.

High clouds to the west are evident on satellite.   These will stream across the area during the day as well.
