WARM WEEKEND: We are still projecting highs generally in the 70-75 degree range through Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds each day. We will be very close to record highs… again below are the daily record maximum temperatures for Birmingham for the next few days…

Today (2/18) 77 – 1982
Saturday (2/19) 76 – 1986
Sunday (2/20) 78 – 1986

I think Sunday will be the warmest day, with mid 70s likely, and potential for a few spots hitting the upper 70s. A weak front will approach North Alabama tonight and fizzle out, and with basically no dynamic support we won’t mention any significant chance of rain in the forecast.

NEXT WEEK: Another front will pass through Monday evening… we will mention just the chance of a few widely scattered showers with this… nothing really widespread or beneficial. Then, slightly cooler air slips into the state Tuesday. The 00Z GFS drops us into the upper 50s, and that could very well be correct as we look at the magnitude of the very cold air easing across the Canadian border; temperatures are below zero over parts of Montana and North Dakota this morning. Certainly the upper air winds won’t allow the core of this to drop south, but it should shave about 10-15 degrees off daytime temperatures. We might even be close to the freezing mark by early Wednesday morning. But, we recover into the 60s Wednesday and Thursday. Another front at the end of the week could bring a risk of showers one week from today.

LONG RANGE: Still no sign of any really serious Arctic invasion through early March… looks like temperatures will stay above average, with rain below average. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.
