An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures are mostly in the 78-82 degree range at 3:00 this afternoon with a sunny sky statewide. Nothing on radar, and nothing is expected through tomorrow.

TUESDAY: Tomorrow promises to be another beautiful early spring day, with ample sunshine and a high in the low 80s, very similar to today. But, to the northwest, strong to severe storms are possible in the broad area from Abilene, Texas to Chicago, but the wave producing that active weather is expected to weaken and pass well to the north of Alabama at mid-week.

WEDNESDAY: A few showers are possible with the cold front during the afternoon hours, or perhaps Wednesday night, but rain amounts should be light and spotty, and folks south of I-20 won’t see anything really significant. The best chance of showers will be over the northern third of the state, and even up there rain will be under 1/2 inch.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Dry air is the story with a good supply of sunshine both days. We will be slightly cooler with highs mostly in the mid 70s. Friday morning will be cool with a low in the low 40s. More great March weather.

THE WEEKEND: Wow… what a dramatic change. Both the 12Z GFS and the 12Z ECMWF are much weaker with our weekend system. Saturday looks mostly dry with only an outside risk of an afternoon shower; we will mention a better chance of showers Sunday, and possibly a thunderstorm, but guidance now suggests no severe weather and relatively light rain amounts. In fact, the GFS even suggests the main threat of showers will be over by midday Sunday. So, with lots of model madness, confidence in a specific solution for Sunday looks low for now, but we will certainly tone down the rain/storm risk at this point.

LONG RANGE: The 12Z GFS shows a good freeze for Alabama around April 2… long time readers know we have been cautioning you about a freeze the first week of April for a while… see the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Tonight’s Guest WeatherBrain is Sean Casey. He is the IMAX filmmaker who produced the Tornado Alley film that is now playing at the McWane Center. Listen liven at 8:30 p.m. CDT on UStream or after the show is posted around 11 p.m. on the web or iTunes.
