Summer-Like Easter Weekend

ALL IS CALM: Finally a chance to dry out for Alabama in coming days as the upper ridge to the south eases northward and takes over. Look for partly to mostly sunny days and fair nights through Sunday with afternoon highs in the 84-88 degree range. The record high for Birmingham is 90 degrees today, tomorrow, and Sunday (set in 1987, 1896, and 1925), so we probably won’t see any new records, but we will be close. And, I guess there could be a little pop up shower somewhere on radar each afternoon, but the chance of any one community getting wet is so small that we won’t mention it in the forecast.
NEXT WEEK: Another significant severe weather threat is ahead. The initial issues will be west of Alabama Monday, but the first batch of showers and storms could arrive as early as Tuesday evening. But, the greatest chance of severe weather seems to come Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, and it could be a setup for all modes of severe storms with heavy rain likely as well. We will be much more specific by Monday morning. Then, cooler and drier air arrives Thursday and Friday.
AT THE BEACH: If you are beach bound for the Easter weekend, expect sunny days and fair nights through Monday. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the mid to upper 70s, and the sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this morning is 76 degrees.
RAIN UPDATE: Birmingham’s rain total for the year is 20.74″, giving us a surplus of 1.66″. Despite a series of severe thunderstorms during the last seven days, Tuscaloosa still has a 2.36″ rain deficiency for the year. The total for the year so far in Anniston is 20.19″, right at the average value for late April.
