Long Dry Spell Ahead

FOGGY START: Visibilities are very low in many parts of North and Central Alabama this morning due to fog, so you might consider some extra time to get to work. And, it sure doesn’t feel like May in Alabama. Temperatures are as low as 38 degrees (that is Cullman’s 5:00 observation)… most places are somewhere in the 38-45 degree range. Once the fog burns off, we expect a cloudless sky today with a high not too far from 70. Dewpoints will stay in the 30s, meaning the humidity will be very low.

We should note here that tomorrow morning will be just as chilly as this morning, with upper 30s and low 40s likely, so those working disaster relief in the tornado zones across our state will need to plan accordingly.

NO RAIN FOR A WHILE: Look for a string of sunny days ahead with a gradual warm-up. We will see a high in the mid 70s tomorrow, upper 70s Friday, and we go back in the 80s over the weekend. Humidity levels will be rising on Saturday and Sunday as well, but an upper ridge over the Gulf Coast states should keep us rain-free. Great weekend for golf at Shoal Creek and the Senior PGA event.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The upper ridge goes nowhere. We will be in the upper 80s Monday, and should flirt with the 90 degree mark on Tuesday and Wednesday. And, we stay dry as well. The GFS does show an upper trough forming over the eastern U.S. in about 10 days that could bring cooler air, following by a rebuilding ridge at mid-month. Still, no sign of any severe weather issues around here for the next 15 days. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.
