RAIN CHANCES RETURN: We could use some rain around here… here are some rain deficits for the year as of this morning:

Anniston 4.62″
Tuscaloosa 1.15″
Montgomery 4.39″

We do note Birmingham actually has a 3.27″ surplus for the year, but we have had less than one-half inch of rain since the 7.11″ we picked up on September 5th thanks to Tropical Storm Lee.

TODAY: Most of the showers and storms on radar this morning are to the west, over East Mississippi, and those should move into West Alabama within the hour (6-7 a.m.). We will forecast a good chance of passing showers and storms today with a high in the 70s due to the clouds and rain.

TOMORROW THROUGH THURSDAY: Scattered to numerous showers and storms will continue, with a few peeks of sun along the way and highs in the 80s. Rain amounts between now and Thursday night should be in the one to two inch range for most places. For now we don’t expect any major issues with severe weather.

FRIDAY: A deep upper trough forms over the eastern U.S., pushing a cold front through here late Thursday night, so Friday should be rain-free with sunshine returning and a fresh north breeze. The humidity will be lower with a high in the 70s.

WEEKEND PEEK: The weekend looks fantastic with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s along with a sunny sky Saturday and Sunday. Some of the cooler pockets across North Alabama might see upper 40s. A great weekend for high school and college football games.

The dry weather should linger into early next week.

TROPICS: A tropical wave in the Central Atlantic is expected to become Tropical Storm Ophelia in coming days; most models keep this below hurricane strength for the next 5 days; the GFDL brings it quickly through the Leeward Islands and into the Caribbean, while the other models are slower. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
