Late Night Radar Check
A fifty mile wide band of showers was filling in across Central Alabama early this morning from Pickens Greene and Sumter Counties in the west to Shelby and Chilton Counties in the middle of the state to Randolph and Chambers Counties in the east.
Activity was increasing in coverage and intensity and is associated with a warm front that is moving north across North Central Alabama. The front is likley just north of Birmingham.
The temperature at Birmingham has risen 8 degrees since 6 p.m. and 4 degrees in the past two hours. The high for February 3rd was actually 58F, recorded just before midnight. The afternoon high had been 57F. You don’t see that very often.
Ahead of the front, a couple of storms were developing over North Central Alabama over Winston, Walker, Cullman and Bloutn Counties. A developing cell was on the Walker/Jefferson County line west of Warrior. The cell between Blountsville and Cleveland near the 231/79 split was really getting its act together.
Individual cells were moving east northeast in the upper flow, but the area should lift northward overnight. Hopefully, areas north of a line through Clanton will get a nice soaking overnight and through the morning hours.
James will be along in a few hours with an update on the forecast and the potential for severe weather this afternoon and especially on Tuesday in Alabama.
