BEAUTIFUL DAY: Expect ample sunshine across Alabama today with a high in the low 70s this afternoon. Mid 70s are likely tomorrow as the mild November weather continues along with a good supply of sunshine.

TO THE WEST: While we enjoy the great weather, a deep upper trough will bring snow in the cold air to parts of Colorado and Kansas again, with severe weather potential over Texas and Oklahoma later today and tonight. The severe weather risk moves east tomorrow, and includes cities like Shreveport and Little Rock. SPC maintains the standard “slight risk” of severe weather for these places in their outlooks.

WEDNESDAY: The good news for Alabama is that the trough out west will weaken and lift well north of Alabama at mid-week, meaning no severe weather here Wednesday, and light rain amounts. In fact, the NAM is printing only 0.02″ of rain for Birmingham… and the guys at NCEP are in agreement with very light totals on their QPF charts. So, we will mention a chance of showers Wednesday, but it sure won’t be a big rain event. Keep in mind the last time we had more than 1/4 inch of rain on any given day was way back on September 20, so we could actually use a good rainy day.

COLDER THURSDAY/FRIDAY: We won’t get out of the 50s Thursday as colder air blows into the state with gradual clearing. Then, a freeze looks likely Friday morning. The GFS is printing 32 for Birmingham, meaning 20s are likely for the colder spots, and it should be the coldest morning so far this fall.

WEEKEND PEEK: The weekend looks very nice with sunny days and clear nights along with a gradual warming trend. Saturday morning still looks cold with frost likely.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS is advertising unsettled weather by the middle part of next week…. not really a severe weather setup, but hopefully it will bring some beneficial rain to the state. See the Weather Xtreme video for details on long range ideas.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will record this week’s show tonight at 8:30 p.m. CDT…

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up on Saturday, November 12 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!
