An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS AFTERNOON: Sure feels good today… temperatures are generally in the 70s at mid-afternoon; warmest spot at 1:00 was Tuscaloosa with 76 degrees. A few alto cumulus clouds are in the sky, but the low levels are dry, and there is no rain.

TO THE WEST: A tornado watch is up for parts of North Texas and West Oklahoma this afternoon, where severe storms have formed ahead of a very deep upper trough over the western states. This severe weather threat will move slowly eastward during the next 36 hours, with severe storms possible tomorrow for places like Little Rock and Shreveport.

HERE IN ALABAMA: We stay dry tomorrow and very mild with a high in the mid 70s. Won’t exactly feel like November. Then, on Wednesday, the system that that is producing the severe weather threat to the west will weaken and lift well north of Alabama, so we still don’t expect anything more that rain showers on Wednesday, with totals generally 1/4 inch or less. The 12Z NAM is printing only 0.05″ for Birmingham… so don’t get your hopes up for really beneficial rain. The showers will move out of the state Wednesday night as colder air begins to move in.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Thursday looks like a rather raw day, with clouds lingering through at least the morning hours, a chilly north wind, and temperatures struggling to get past the mid 50s. Then, as the sky clears, the stage is set for a freeze for many places early Friday with a low very close to 32; the colder spots will reach the 20s. Friday will be a sunny and cool day with a high in the 50s.

WEEKEND PEEK: While we start the dat Saturday around freezing again, we warm into the low 60s Saturday, and upper 60s Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days. Another great weekend for football in Alabama.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS shows another weakening system impacting Alabama by the middle part of next week with a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, but no severe weather threat. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

TROPICS: A disturbance in the Atlantic, well east of the U.S. Atlantic coast, has some chance of becoming a tropical or sub-tropical storm during the next 48 hours, but ultimately it will be turned northeast away from land. The 2011 hurricane season ends at the end of November.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up on Saturday, November 12 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
