Cold Front Arrives Late Tomorrow

WARM AFTERNOON: Montgomery has soared to 80 degrees at 1:00 this afternoon under a partly sunny sky; most communities up this way are in the 70s. And, while we enjoy a very delightful afternoon, to the west more strong to severe storms are in progress over eastern parts of Oklahoma and Texas, and despite lower shear values, a few tornado warnings have been issued all the way from just north of Houston into the Ark-La-Tex region.
TOMORROW IN ALABAMA: The upper support for the storms to the west will weaken and lift well north of Alabama, meaning no severe weather, and no heavy rain for our state. Just a few passing rain showers along the front. The 12Z NAM is showing a mere 0.10″ for Birmingham. Again, not what we could call beneficial rain.
MUCH COLDER THURSDAY/FRIDAY: We are now much more confident in rapid clearing Thursday morning for Alabama with the surface low and upper trough so far to the north, but the day will still be much colder with a high in the mid to upper 50s along with a chilly north breeze. Still looks like we will be very close to freezing at daybreak Friday, with 20s possible for the colder pockets around here. Friday will be cool and dry with a sunny sky and a high in the upper 50s.
WEEKEND FORECAST: Another cold morning early Saturday with low 30s likely, but we warm into the mid 60s Saturday afternoon with a good supply of sunshine. We will call Sunday partly sunny with a high in the 67-70 degree range as a warming trend continues.
NEXT WEEK: Still looks like the next good chance of showers will come on Wednesday of next week, but an isolated shower is not totally out of the question on Monday and Tuesday with increasing moisture levels. And, the latest global models runs do not show a favorable severe weather setup for Alabama Wednesday… which is great news. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.
BERING SEA STORM: How about that whopper of a storm over the Bering Sea, moving slowly toward Alaska. The central pressure could drop to a remarkable 940 mb… see the video for details.
