Overcast, Cool Day

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

A LITTLE LIGHT RAIN: Some scattered light rain is possible across Alabama today, with the best chance east of I-65 and south of I-20. Early this morning, most of the rain was south of a line from Sylacauga to Mellow Valley to Roanoke. Otherwise, the day will be mostly cloudy and cool with a high in the 50s.

TOMORROW/WEDNESDAY: While the sky will remain generally cloudy tomorrow, the weather begins to warm up with a high in the low 60s. I guess a little light rain is possible early in the day over East Alabama, but most of the state will be dry. We rise into the upper 60s Wednesday with a mix of sun and clouds.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: A big storm system lifting out of the Southwest U.S. might set up a few severe storms Wednesday across the Plains, but the feature will weaken and pass well north of Alabama Thursday with just a cold front sagging into our state. The front will stall and fizzle out by Friday, so it won’t produce much rain. We will mention just a chance of showers Thursday night and Friday, but rain amounts will be light and spotty. Our high will be close to 70 on Thursday, but it will drop back into the low 60s Friday with a weak northerly flow.

WEEKEND PEEK: Looks like the high will be close to 60 degrees both Saturday and Sunday, and the weekend will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds.

The benign weather should continue into next week as we begin the countdown to Christmas. The pattern favors above average temperatures and below average rain for the last two weeks of the month; the hope of a back to back White Christmas for Alabama is basically non existent for now. See the Weather Xtreme video for details on long range weather.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will record this week’s show tonight at 8:30 p.m. CST…
