SEASONAL TEMPERATURES RETURN: Following a day with strong to severe storms and afternoon highs in the low 70s in many areas, temperatures are back where they should be today and over the weekend, with highs in the 50s. Clouds are hanging tough, but we expect to see a few intervals of sunshine later today. No rain for Alabama today.

CHRISTMAS WEEKEND: Global models are actually in good agreement now, giving higher confidence in the forecast through next week. Tomorrow will be another cool and dry day with a mix of sun and clouds, but the clouds will thicken tomorrow night ahead of the final wave in the series to lift out of the Southwest U.S., and we will forecast a cloudy day on Sunday with periods of rain. Highs will hold in the 50s; Christmas Day will be the coolest day with clouds and rain at times; some North Alabama communities will struggle to get out of the 40s.

Both the GFS and the ECMWF now agree that the rain will continue through Monday, followed by drier air and the return of sunshine. We will adjust the forecast accordingly. Then, the rest of next week looks dry and seasonal with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. See the Weather Xtreme video for long range ideas as we head into 2012.

MERRY CHRISTMAS: We are going on a holiday schedule today through the New Year’s weekend, so just one Weather Xtreme video per day. And, this is my last day for a while; I will return for duty on Tuesday January 3, 2012. So, let me take this time to wish you and your family a very blessed Christmas. I hope you enjoy God’s richest blessings. This has been a very difficult year for so many of us, we will never forget what happened on April 27. Please remember those who lost loved ones on that historic day; this is the hardest time of the year for them. I leave you this short video below with some of the kids in the children’s ministry at Double Oak Community Church in Shelby County where I lead children’s worship every Sunday. See you next year!
