An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: Had a few “illegal” patches of light rain across North Alabama last night… those came with a short wave passing just north of here. Surprised rain made it down to the surface despite the very dry air in the lower levels of the atmosphere. But, rain was very light and very spotty, and most had a great chance to see that big, full moon last night.

Our weather will be dry today with a partly sunny sky and a high at or just over 60 in most spots. Tomorrow and Friday will be dry and a little cooler; expect a high in the mid 50s tomorrow and upper 50s Friday.

A cold front will pass through here Friday night, and the ECMWF suggests we might see a little light rain along the front, much like last night, and we will go ahead and mention that in the forecast. Rain will be light and spotty with very limited moisture.

COLDER WEEKEND: A chilly airmass will drop into the state this weekend. The latest GFS suggests a high near 50 Saturday, with mid 40s Sunday. And, the model is printing a low of 22 degrees in Birmingham both Sunday and Monday morning, and of course this would mean upper teens for the colder valleys. We will adjust our temperature forecast downward accordingly. No precipitation for the weekend with a dry airmass in place.

NEXT WEEK: Next chance of rain comes Monday night and Tuesday; followed by perhaps a bigger rain event Wednesday into Thursday. The ECMWF hints at some thunderstorms being involved by Thursday… see the Weather Xtreme video for the graphics and details. And, still no sign of any seriously cold weather, snow, or ice through mid-month.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

Very busy days for us… I will be doing a weather program this morning at Phillips High School in Bear Creek, and then later today I will be at the Publix in Homewood on GreenSprings Avenue programming Weather Radio receivers. And, tomorrow night Storm Alert 2012 rolls along as we will be in Phil Campbell at Shoals-Northwest Community College. The show begins at 6:30… we hope to see many of you there.

Won’t be able to post an afternoon video today or tomorrow due to the intense travel schedule, but I will have a fresh discussion later today by 3:00 or so. Enjoy the day!
