Sleeting!

| March 3, 2012 @ 11:31 am

We started seeing reports of sleet from the Vicksburg area in Mississippi this morning.

Just saw one from McCalla.

You could see some precipitation if you are in Jefferson or Shelby counties or points east over the next couple of hours. It could start out as sleet or a light rain/sleet mix. Just a little Saturday surprise.

That sleet (or ice pellets, or graupel) is falling from stratocumulus clouds, which are a product of slightly unstable air behind last night’s cold front.
