Japan Quake Measured In Huntsville

| March 14, 2012 @ 9:44 pm

From Steve Jones…

“The seismogram and epicenter location map for the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that occurred this morning at 09:08:37 UTC (4:08:37 am CDT) just off the East coast of Honshu, Japan, have been posted to the “Huntsville Seismograms” and “Recent Earthquake Maps” pages at https://alabamaquake.com/. The seismogram shows a two-hour window of time during which another, smaller, quake (measured at magnitude 6.1) also struck just off the east coast of Japan this morning.

In Huntsville, the slower-traveling surface waves from the M6.9 quake began arriving some 45 minutes after the event occurred, and produced a vertical ground movement calculated to be approximately 72 micrometers (um).”
