Rain Chances Increase This Weekend

**There will be only one Weather Xtreme video today and tomorrow; I will be attending the funeral of my old boss and good friend Wendell Harris this afternoon, and tomorrow afternoon I will be traveling to Gadsden for live weather at Riverfest**
DRY TODAY AND TOMORROW: Another pleasant morning across Alabama… seeing a number of places in the 50s at daybreak. Our Skywatcher at Black Creek, northeast of Gadsden… reports a low so far of 54 degrees.
Not much change in our weather today and tomorrow…. the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with a high in the 84 to 88 degree range for most places. Any showers should be confined to the southern counties of the state, and even down there they will be pretty scattered.
WEEKEND CHANGES: No doubt we will have to hit the chance of rain harder for the weekend. On Saturday, the sky will be partly sunny with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms by afternoon; the chance of any one spot getting wet will be about one in three. Then, on Sunday, showers and storms will become more numerous as moisture levels continue to increase, and the upper low (now over Oklahoma) approaches from the west. The high Saturday will be in the mid to upper 80s, but by Sunday temperatures will probably peak only in the low to mid 80s due to the clouds and showers.
A strong storm is possible Sunday in spots, but severe weather looks rather unlikely. But, on the positive side, some beneficial rain is likely as the unsettled weather continues into early next week. We will continue to forecast scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms at least through Tuesday with a deep moisture axis over Alabama. Rain totals Sunday through Tuesday should be in the 1 to 3 inch range for much of Alabama.
GULF COAST WEATHER: About 4 to 6 hours of sun for the Gulf Coast (from Panama City west to Gulf Shores) today and tomorrow with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Then, showers and storms become more widespread over the weekend with only a limited amount of sun. Would not be surprised if the rain becomes heavy in spots Saturday and Sunday with the upper low just to the west. Highs will stay in the 80s, and the sea water temperature this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 83 degrees.
