Front Making Slow/Steady Progress

| October 6, 2012 @ 11:34 am

Just before noon, the cold front that was moving through the Southeast US had made it into Georgia and was lying from about August, GA, to Apalachicola, FL – based on the wind shift that is. Clouds along with a couple of small showers were lingering behind the wind shift. The cloud band was stretching from East Tennessee across North Central Alabama into Central Mississippi.

Temperatures had a substantial range in values. Readings in the lower 80s, 80 to 84, were occurring in the Southeast corner of the state. Central Alabama was primarily in the 70s. The Tennessee Valley area showed a big change from east to west with readings in the middle 60s at Gadsden falling to the lower 50s at Muscle Shoals. Guess that shows where the cold air really is.

The chillier air will gradually spread southeastward as a short wave moves through the long wave trough situated over the eastern half of the US. By tomorrow morning we should be seeing lows in the 40s. And in spite of some sunshine, the cold air advection should keep afternoon highs to the middle 60s – about our coolest day of the young Fall season.
