One Strong Storm

| October 6, 2012 @ 6:24 pm

One thunderstorm was located at 6:22 pm just southwest of Fayette moving east at 35 mph. This particular storm had a good deal of lightning associated with it along with heavy rain. Hail up to about half inch was also possible, but there have not been any reports associated with this storm.

The strong thunderstorm was on a track that would impact northern Tuscaloosa County as well as the southern portion of Fayette County including spots like Samantha and Newtonville. If it holds together, it would impact Central Jefferson County, too, including places like Hueytown, Fairfield, Birmingham, Bessemer, and Homewood to name a few.

Rain was occurring in two big patches. One covering portions of Walker, Lamar, and Fayette counties. Another slightly further north covering parts of Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin counties. All of this rain was moving east around 35 mph.

The temperature had dropped to 50 at Memphis as of the 6 pm observation, so the really chilly air is still a tad northwest of Alabama at this writing. I was on the front porch about 20 minutes ago, and it felt marvelous!!
