Anybody remember the song by the Mamas and Papas?

“Monday Monday, so good to me,
Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn’t guarantee
That Monday evening you would still be here with me.”

I actually like Mondays… I get a little sleep over the weekend and the energy level is way up.

THE DAY AHEAD: Showers and storms from last night are well to the southeast; they are lined up from near Phenix City to Troy to Atmore as I write this right before the sun comes up. In the wake of the storms, we have some dense fog in spots over North Alabama. Once that burns off, the day will be beautiful with a sunny sky and low humidity. The high today will be in the low to mid 70s… just about perfect for mid-October in Alabama.

TOMORROW/WEDNESDAY: These days will be pleasant as well with ample sunshine; we reach the mid 70s tomorrow, followed by mid to upper 70s Wednesday.

NEXT STORM SYSTEM: SPC has the standard “slight risk” of severe storms ahead of the next deep upper trough over parts of Arkansas and Missouri on Wednesday; those storms will move into Alabama late Wednesday night into Thursday. At this point it looks like the main window for showers and storms will come from about 3:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Thursday. Much like the system last night, we might have a few strong storms, but the overall severe weather parameters are low. Rain amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch are likely. The sky should begin to clear Thursday afternoon as a new surge of cool, dry air blows into the state. We will probably have a hard time getting out of the 60s Thursday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Fine fall weather. Sunny pleasant days, clear chilly nights. The high will be near 70 Friday, with low 70s Saturday, and mid 70s Sunday. Morning lows will be well down in the 40s, with potential for 30s across the colder valleys Friday and Saturday morning.

TROPICS: Rafael should become a hurricane today well north of Puerto Rico… it will move north, and then northeast, passing east of Bermuda in about 48 hours. No threat to the U.S., and the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet. The hurricane season runs through the end of November, but major hurricanes are pretty rare past mid-October as the tropical waters cool.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will produce tonight’s show at 8:30 p.m. CDT… you can watch live here.
