Windy and Colder

| March 24, 2013 @ 6:45 pm

Most of Alabama and the Southeast remain under a wind advisory this evening. The advisory for our part of Alabama remains in effect until 9PM tonight. After that, winds are should be under advisory criteria. Very gusty winds have been blowing all afternoon, and there was a wind gust of 51 mph at the Birmingham Airport. Tuscaloosa had a gust of 39 mph and Anniston has had a gust of 36 mph.

The main culprit for the wind is a cold front that is swinging across the Southeast and the low pressure it is attached to in the Ohio River Valley. The winds around the low blow counter-clockwise, this allowing for very cold air to spill into the Southeast. Temperatures will be well below normal as we start the work week as afternoon highs will have a hard time reaching 50 on Monday and Tuesday. We will see a couple of mornings with low below freezing too. High pressure will settle in and even though it will be cold, we can expect to see ample sunshine and dry conditions for most of the week.
