Showers Over West Alabama

| May 31, 2013 @ 5:44 pm

I am live at Riverfest in Gadsden on ABC 33/40 this evening so no afternoon video, and just a few quick forecast notes…

WEST ALABAMA SHOWERS: Showers are generally confined to the western counties of Alabama this afternoon… Mostly west of US 43. These will die down once the sun goes down later this evening.

TO THE WEST: Tornado watches cover much of Oklahoma, and parts of Arkansas and Missouri, where conditions are maximized for severe storms with large hail, high winds, and a few tornadoes. A strong/violent tornado is possible as well.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Not much change in the thinking for the weekend: we will have a chance of scattered showers and storms tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night; the chance of any one spot getting wet is about one in three. A few strong storms could move into the northwest corner of the state late tomorrow night ahead of a cold front.

A few passing showers and storms are likely Sunday, followed by a surge of dry air Monday. We don’t expect any organized severe threat Sunday, and rain amounts should be generally around 1/2 inch.

NEXT WEEK: Expect a good supply of sunshine Monday through Wednesday with lower humidity levels. A few showers could show up late in the week… And we note the GFS continues to develop a tropical system in the Gulf that could bring heavy rain to the Florida peninsula in a week or so.

Will be back to the two video a da schedule Monday! Enjoy the weekend….
