Cooler Temps/Lower Humidity Ahead
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…
A few illegal showers and storms have formed on the surface front this afternoon along and south of a line from Ranburne to Sylacauga to Brent and on to Livingston. These showers will be gone shortly as the dry air takes over.
At 2:00… Muscle Shoals was reporting a temperature of 84, a dewpoint of 57, and a nice north breeze. That sure sounds more like April instead of June in Alabama.
Birmingham’s dewpoint at 2:00 was still 67, but will drop steadily in coming hours as the dry air moves in from the north.
The mid-week period still looks very nice, with sunny days, clear cooler nights, and lower humidity values. Highs will be in the mid 80s tomorrow and Thursday, and the NAM and the GFS both are showing 58 for Birmingham at daybreak Thursday. Sure sounds good to me.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: We will bring in a chance of showers and storms on Friday as an impulse riding down the west side of the eastern U.S. upper trough approaches. The latest GFS pushes most of the showers and storms south of I-20 by Saturday, and the entire state is dry on Sunday. Afternoon highs over the weekend will be generally in the mid to upper 80s.
LONG RANGE: The idea of a mean upper trough over the eastern U.S. holds into early July, meaning our temperatures should run a little below average. Scattered, mainly afternoon and evening showers and storms will be part of the forecast on a number of days late in June and into early July as moist air sits over the Deep South. The GFS continues to suggest the hottest weather in the nation will stay out west. And, no sign of any tropical weather issues of interest in coming days.
