RADAR UPDATE: Rain has been falling most of the day over Northwest Alabama…. generally north of I-20 and west of I-65, but the rain mass has been slow to move southeast so far. Where rain is falling, temperatures are in the 60s, but elsewhere we see mostly low 70s with a cloudy sky. To the south, Montgomery has reached 82 degrees with a bit of sunshine breaking through.

TONIGHT AND TOMORROW: Cloudy with periods of rain for much of the state. The high resolution NAM suggests the main time for rain for places like Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, and Gadsden will come from 6:00 p.m. today through 12:00 noon tomorrow. Rain amounts of around 1/2 inch are likely; no severe weather, and probably no thunder. Tomorrow will be cool with temperatures holding in the 60s all day.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Friday morning will be pretty chilly with a low between 48 and 51 degrees for most places; the day Friday will be sunny with a high in the low 70s.

The weekend looks rain-free for the northern half of Alabama; partly to mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday with highs between 70 and 75. Early morning lows will range from 46 to 51 degrees. Any rain on Saturday will be well to the south of here, and maybe even offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: No rain for high football games begin tomorrow night with a clearing sky, and Friday night looks great with clear and cool conditions. Both nights temperatures will fall through the 50s; you will need a jacket.

Alabama will host the Arkansas Razorbacks Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff) at Bryant-Denny Stadium; the sky will be mostly clear; about 70 degrees at kickoff, with temperatures falling into the 50s by the second half.

Auburn is on the road; they will take on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station, TX Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be partly sunny with only a slight risk of a shower during the game; about 75 degrees at kickoff, then falling into the 60s by the fourth quarter.

RACE WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA: Rain is likely at the Superspeedway tomorrow morning, but the rain should be gone by early afternoon, and we expect dry weather Friday through Sunday with partly to mostly sunny days, and fair chilly nights. Highs for the weekend will be in the low to mid 70s, with early morning lows generally in the upper 40s. A fine weekend for NASCAR fans.

AT THE BEACH: Periods of rain are likely tomorrow from Panama City to Gulf Shores with a mostly cloudy sky. Then, on Friday, the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with only a small risk of a shower. Then, for Saturday and Sunday, generally cloudy with a chance of showers Saturday, but Sunday should be drier with a pretty decent amount of sunshine. Highs will be generally in the 70s; the sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 78 degrees.

TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected this week.
