After the coldest morning so far this Fall season, temperatures this morning are 10 to 15 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. At 5 am temperatures ranged from 41 at Anniston/Oxford to 52 at Tuscaloosa. Clouds from the short wave approaching the Mississippi River were evident across the northern half of Alabama on early morning satellite imagery.

That same short wave will move by tonight and early Monday bringing an increase in clouds as well as the potential for some patchy rain. Moisture is still the missing ingredient, so any real rain will have to wait for the next system coming about Halloween.

The upper ridge will take over behind the short wave on Monday and become the principal feature aloft through Wednesday. Wednesday into Friday, the strong short wave trough coming through the southern and central Rockies will eject northeastward dragging a front into the area late Thursday. This timing seems likely to bring some rain into Alabama especially western and northwestern sections Thursday evening for Trick or Treat time. Looks like the eastern and perhaps much of the central sections will remain dry until later in the evening toward midnight.

The timing issue between models that we saw yesterday is still a small issue, but the models have come into a much closer agreement. The GFS is still the fastest, but the European is pretty close on this run.

Another impulse moves into the eastern US troughiness on Friday to push the front further east and south. This should bring an end to any lingering rain and showers from Friday evening games. Looks like next weekend will be dry and cool once again with another ridge coming into play as the trough moves well off the East Coast.

Tropics are quiet. SPC has a slight risk area outlined in the area of western Oklahoma and Kansas on Days 2 and 3, but nothing for Day 1. A small cluster of strong storms was moving through the Houston area early this morning, but that weather should be dissipating soon as the storms move eastward into less favorable conditions.

Voodoo remains active with on system around the 6th of November and another one around the 9th. The second one looks potentially strong with a risk for severe storms, but we are well into voodoo country so this is likely to change.
