RAIN MOVES OUT: A check of the radar just before daybreak shows rain generally south of a line from Roanoke to Montgomery to Monroeville; that rain is moving east and will be out of the state very soon.

The sky will become partly sunny today with a high in the low 70s in most places. Tonight looks great for high school football games with a clear sky and temperatures falling into the 50s by the second half of the games.

OUR WEEKEND: Perfect autumn weather for the first weekend of November. Sunny pleasant days, clear chilly nights. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s, and we will drop down to near 40 degrees early Sunday morning, with 30s possible for the colder spots. The fall colors have come alive, and this will be a perfect weekend to enjoy them as we are getting very close to the color peak here in Alabama.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn plays at Arkansas tomorrow (5:00pm CT kickoff); the sky will be sunny with a kickoff temperature near 55 degrees, falling quickly into the 40s by halftime. UAB will host Middle Tennessee State Saturday at Legion Field in Birmingham (12:00pm CT kickoff); the sky will be sunny. About 61 degrees at kickoff, 64 degrees by the final whistle with a stiff north wind of 10-20 mph. Alabama is taking the week off.

NEXT WEEK: Next chance of showers and storms for Alabama will come late Wednesday and Wednesday night; looks much like the system last night. Severe weather should not be a problem, and the rain totals should be 1/2 inch or less for most spots, then drier air returns Thursday and Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic basin; tropical storm formation not expected anytime soon. Maybe even until next summer.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
