A Few Showers Early Thursday Morning

BEAUTIFUL DAY: Yet another fantastic fall day for Alabama. Lots of sunshine this afternoon with temperatures in the 60s. A few high cirrus clouds, and those should make for another great sunset. We should mention the sunset time today in Birmingham is 4:52 p.m… as we are back on standard time.
MID-WEEK: We stay rain-free tomorrow and Wednesday; tomorrow’s high will be in the upper 60s with a partly sunny sky, and the high Wednesday will be in the low 70s with a mix of sun and clouds.
We will continue to mention a risk of showers from around midnight Wednesday night through 9:00 a.m. Thursday ahead of a cold front. No surface based instability means no risk of severe weather, and probably no thunder. Rain amounts will be light, generally under 1/4 inch for most places.
The sky becomes partly sunny Thursday as colder and drier air moves in; the high Thursday will be near 60 degrees with a cool north breeze. Temperatures will drop down into the 30s early Friday with frost likely, and a freeze for the colder valleys and protected areas.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Doesn’t get much better. Sunny pleasant days, clear chilly nights. Highs in the 60s, lows mostly in the 40s Saturday and Sunday. Perfect for football.
NEXT WEEK: Our weather stays dry for the first part of next week, but the 12Z GFS shows a big upper trough setup just west of the state by Thursday (November 14), with severe weather potential. This is just an idea and something to watch in coming days. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. On this week’s show, we continue the discussion started two weeks ago with Mike Morgan of KFOR in Oklahoma City concerning the media coverage of the 5/31 El Reno, Oklahoma tornado. Our guests tonight will be Harold Brooks, a research meteorologist at NSSL, Rick Smith, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Norman NWS Forecast Office, and Damon Lane, Chief Meteorologist at KOCO TV in Oklahoma City. You can watch the show live here, it begins at 8:30p CT on “James Spann 24/7” on cable systems around the state, or on the web here.
