GOLDEN DAYS OF FALL: Sometimes you can find great fall colors not far from home. I captured this image from the ABC 33/40 parking lot this afternoon…

With a sunny sky, temperatures are generally between 58 and 62 degrees across the great state of Alabama. Another cold night is ahead with 30s likely by early tomorrow… the colder readings will be over East Alabama, where the NWS has a few counties under a “frost advisory”. Most communities will see a low between 34 and 38 degrees early tomorrow morning.

OUR WEEKEND: The sub tropical jet stream will push mid and high level clouds overhead tomorrow, but the low levels will remain dry and there is no chance of rain. The high tomorrow will be in the low to mid 60s. Sunday will feature a good supply of sunshine; the high will be in the 65-69 degree range.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the first round of the high school football playoffs tonight, the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from the low 50s at kickoff into the 40s by halftime. Great night for football, just bring a warm jacket.

Alabama hosts LSU tomorrow night in Tuscaloosa (7:00p CT kickoff); the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 55 degrees, falling into the 40s during the second half. Auburn travels to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers (11:00 a.m. CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly sunny with temperatures rising from 55 at kickoff to near 60 degrees by the final whistle.

UAB is on the road; they play at Marshall tomorrow in Huntingdon, West Virginia; the sky will be sunny with 52 degrees at kickoff, and 57 degrees by the end of the game. Doesn’t get much better for a November Saturday.

EVEN COLDER NEXT WEEK: The coldest air so far this season will invade Alabama. The 12Z run of the GFS is faster, and shows that cold air beginning to move in here Tuesday with a strong north wind. The high Tuesday will drop down into the low to mid 50s, and I don’t think we get out of the 40s Wednesday. Morning lows should reach the 20s Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning. The coldest morning, most likely, will come early Thursday when mid 20s are possible, very close to record levels.

No rain next week as that cold air dropping into the state will be very dry.

VOODOO LAND PEEK: The good news is that we see no chance of any severe weather around here for the next 10 to 15 days, and temperatures will most likely remain below average, making for a nice, stable atmosphere.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual severe weather spotter training is coming up on Saturday November 23 at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center (BJCC) as part of the Alabama International Auto Show. We begin at 9:00; admission is free, and if you attend our storm training, you get free admission into the car show when we are done. No need to pre-register, no age limits. Just show up, be ready to learn, and make the Alabama severe weather warning process better!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
