Travel Headaches Abound

| January 28, 2014 @ 10:48 am

Numerous reports across the state and Central Alabama of weather related accidents.

Snow is covering roadways throughout the area today. Many locations continue to see a dusting to half an inch of snow, but the problem is that the roads are colder than they have been with such a cold Arctic air mass in place. The snow is sticking to the roads causing slick spots throughout Central Alabama. Please use extreme caution if driving. Slow down and take your time.

Snow covering roads in Guntersville.

Multiple reports or wrecks along McFarland Blvd throughout the city of Tuscaloosa.

Birmingham FD reporting wrecks along the Interstates.

Highway 31 in Vestavia Hills is snow covered.

Many picture coming via social media of snow covered roads through out the area and keep them coming.

Most local school systems are closing.

The back edge of the snow is just along the Interstate 59 corridor and has slowed its forward progression. Areas northwest of this line are done with the snow. Areas south and east of these areas will likely continue to see snow and wintry precip throughout the afternoon.

Though we are seeing travel problems along the Interstate 20/59 corridor, the most serious travel issues are in Central Alabama, where freezing rain, sleet, and snow continue to fall. Severe travel problems are ongoing as iced over bridges are numerous throughout the Central part of the state.

If you do not have to be out on the roads, please don’t be.
