Snow Showers Moving East

| February 6, 2014 @ 3:43 pm

Snow continues to push east through Alabama this afternoon. Numerous reports of flurries up and down the U.S. 43 corridor north of Tuscaloosa. From Tuscaloosa to the south we are seeing heavier snow showers.

Reports that snow is falling around Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama campus. Sticking to elevated surfaces, but as soon as it hits the roads it melts. No weather related travel issues being reported.

Light snow being reported through out Greene and Marengo Counties as well.

Looking at skycams over our southwestern counties, Livingston and many locations in Sumter County have received a dusting of snow. The snow is beginning to end there.

The snow flurries are now making it into Jefferson county and the western suburbs of Birmingham. The Interstate 20 corridor from Birmingham to Anniston will remain on the north side of the heavier snow showers. Most of the precip north of here is not reaching the ground. To the south, the U.S. 80 corridor will likely be near the south side of the snow. Farther south, down in the some of the counties covered by NWS Mobile, it is mostly sleet being reported in Wilcox, Clarke and Monroe Counties.

Once again, this is a very quick hitting system. The back edge of the precip is into West Alabama now and will continue to move east rapidly. Just minor accumulations on grassy surfaces being reported. We could still see the Winter Weather Advisory issued to the east as the heavier precips moves that direction.

Once again, this system is nothing like the system we saw last week. No major issues with travel are expected and by later tonight we will begin to see the sky clear as we turn much colder.
