The area of precipitation did in fact weaken as it moved into Alabama and into drier air overnight, and we have been watching it shrivel up on radar.

Light precipitation continues from the Birmingham Metro area, where it is 34F at the Airport ad 37F in Calera generally down I-59 through Tuscaloosa, Greene, Hale and Sumter Counties. It is raining or is about to begin raining in Tuscaloosa, CEntreville, Greensboro Demopolis, Marion and Linden.

Tuscaloosa had light rain and 36F at last report and temperatures through West Central Alabama are generally in the middle to upper 30s.

Richard Scott from tv station WVUA reported that he experienced a ten main period of precipitation, opening with snow and sleet, changing quickly to rain mixed with some sleet. No accumulation.

A little very light precipitation is moving through southern Jackson, Marshall and northern Blount Counties. It is a mix of sleet, snow and rain. In Cullman, it was 30F last hour with :unknown precipitation” reported on the ASOS equipment. Temperatures are just above freezing and have gone about as low as they are going to go in Northeast Alabama ahead of these dying radar echoes.

No reports of any road problems have been received at the this time. The NWS in Birmingham maintains a winter weather advisory for Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker and Winston Counties, so use caution in these counties where a very light wintry mix fell overnight. Bridges and overpasses might have a few slick spots on them.

The good news is that temperatures will rise to 40F by 9-10 a.m. with lower 50s across the area by afternoon.
