WARM, DRY THROUGH MID-WEEK: Yesterday’s official high in Birmingham was 88 degrees, making it the warmest day so far in 2014. The weather won’t change much through Thursday, with sunny warm days and fair pleasant highs. Afternoon highs will remain in the mid to upper 80s.

TO THE WEST: SPC has defined the standard “slight risk” of severe weather for much of the nation’s heartland from Texas north to the western Great Lakes tomorrow and Thursday, but the dynamic support will lift up into Canada, and no organized severe weather is expected beyond Thursday thankfully.

FRIDAY: Moist air returns as the upper ridge breaks down, and we will bring in the chance of showers and thunderstorms by afternoon, continuing Friday night. The high Friday will drop into the low 80s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Moist air stays in place, we will have to maintain the chance of showers and thunderstorms both days. No severe weather, and there will be some good breaks in the rain, but plan on occasional showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. The coverage of the rain should be a little higher on Saturday; highs will be at or just over 80 degrees.

The moist air lingers into at least the first half of next week, with some risk of scattered showers and storms each day Monday through Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

AT THE BEACH: Sunny days and fair nights through Thursday from Panama City over to Gulf Shores. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the 70s, with 80s just a few miles inland. Scattered showers and storms return to the coast Friday through Sunday, with about 2 to 4 hours of sunshine each day.

WEATHER RADIO PROGRAMMING: We will be at Academy Sports in Gadsden Wednesday from 3:30 until 6:30 p.m… if you need some help with your weather radio, come see us.

CENTRAL ALABAMA NWA: Tim Troutman is a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Huntsville. He is an expert on the Superoutbreak of tornadoes that occurred on April 3-4, 1974. He will be the featured guest at the National Weather Association local chapter meeting on Monday night, May 19, 2014.
