RADAR CHECK: As we expect in July we have random, scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon. Heavier storms are producing strong winds gusts, heavy rain, and lots of lightning. Away from storms temperatures are in the upper 80s and low 90s with a mix of sun and clouds.
Today through Friday rain chances are higher, in the 50-70% range, meaning scattered to perhaps numerous afternoon and evening showers and storms will be common across the Alabama landscape.
JULY IN ALABAMA: We might see a little increase in the number of afternoon showers and thunderstorms through Friday as the air will be a little more unstable, but the overall pattern just won’t change much through the weekend.
RADAR CHECK: We have the classic case of random, scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon. They are mostly over the northern 2/3 of the state, and all of them will fade after sunset. Away from the showers the sky is partly to mostly sunny with temperatures in the low 90s.
Today, rain chances remain in the 20-30% range across much of Alabama. It is hot everywhere with highs in the low to mid 90s. Any showers and storms today will be isolated in nature, with most of us staying day.
The sounds of sizzling grills are synonymous with the Fourth of July. It’s the most popular holiday for grilling, with more than 60% of Americans planning to celebrate by sharing grilled foods.
SUMMER IN ALABAMA: We are in that time of the year when the weather doesn’t change much across the Deep South. You can say “hot and humid with an afternoon storm in spots” and you will be correct 90 percent of the time. That is the situation for Alabama through the rest of the week; highs will be in the low to mid 90s today, and in the 88-92 degree range over the latter half of the week.
RADAR CHECK: We have random, isolated showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon that are moving little. Otherwise we have a partly to mostly sunny sky with temperatures in the low to mid 90s.
We are seeing a more sun than clouds in the Alabama sky today, and rain chances are around 20% for much of the state. Highs this afternoon will be in the low to mid 90s and with high humidity levels, heat index values are approaching the century mark.
SUMMER WEATHER: We are looking at some pretty routine summer weather for Alabama and the Deep South this week. Partly sunny, hot, humid days with the risk of a passing afternoon/evening shower or thunderstorm.
Chantal made landfall near Myrtle Beach this morning and is now spreading heavy rain across the Carolinas—Alabama remains unaffected by the storm.
Although winds have diminished, dangerous surf and rip currents will continue along much of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coasts from northeast Florida to the Outer Banks through at least Monday.
Greasy Cove General Store and its onsite eatery, Greasy Spoon Kitchen, rest in a valley in the tiny town of Gallant in the even tinier Greasy Cove community.
Hot and mostly dry conditions dominate Sunday, but isolated storms and building moisture hint at a more active pattern as the week unfolds.
