COOL MARCH DAY: Temperatures are mostly in the 50s across Alabama this afternoon with a mostly cloudy sky; look for gradual clearing tonight with a low in the 38-42 degree range. Tomorrow will be noticeably warmer with a high in the mid to upper 60s along with a partly to mostly sunny sky.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is confined to parts of East and Southeast Alabama early this morning as a wave of low pressure along a stalled front pushes eastward. There were several severe thunderstorms across South Alabama overnight, and a few tornado warnings were issued, but the severe storms have pushed into Georgia as of 6:00 a.m.
COOL/DRY TODAY: Clouds will increase across Alabama today, but the weather will stay dry with a high in the mid 50s. The average high for Birmingham on January 5 is 54. Then tomorrow, most of the state will see periods of light rain, and another shot of very cold air moves into the state. There will be potential for freezing or frozen precipitation over parts of North Alabama.
SUNNY AND SEASONAL: Dry air has returned to Alabama; we are starting the day with a clear sky and temperatures in the 28-35 degree range for most places. The sky will be sunny today with a high in the mid 50s… the average high for Birmingham on December 22 is 56. Tonight will be clear and cold… most places will go below freezing early tomorrow in the 24-32 degree range. It will most likely be our last sub-freezing morning of 2021.
Clouds will increase across Alabama today as a surface low develops in the Gulf of Mexico. Rain is likely tonight and tomorrow mainly for the southern 2/3 of the state; heaviest rain will be south and east of Montgomery. Otherwise, the weather will be cloudy and cool with a high in the mid 50s today, and low 50s tomorrow. Parts of North Alabama won’t get out of the 40s tomorrow afternoon.
ON THE MAPS: A cold front is stalled out over Southeast Alabama early this morning; south of the front Dothan reports 60 degrees, but most communities over the northern half of the state are in the 30s, and a few spots are at freezing. Today will be mostly cloudy and cool with a high in the 48-52 degree range for North/Central Alabama… the average high for Birmingham on December 7 is 59. A few showers are possible today over South Alabama near the stalled front.
DRY DAYS AHEAD: The sky has become partly sunny across much of Alabama this afternoon as a storm system in the eastern Gulf of Mexico moves eastward… temperatures are in the 50s and low 60s, still well below average for early November in Alabama. Tonight will be mostly fair and cold with lows in the 36-44 degree range… some frost is likely for colder spots early tomorrow morning.
DRY, BUT STILL CLOUDY: Clouds continue to cover most of Alabama early this morning with temperatures mostly in the 40s. Clouds will likely linger much of the day as a wave of low pressure forms in the Gulf of Mexico, but rain with that feature will be confined mainly to the Florida peninsula… Alabama will be dry with a high in the 57-62 degree range. Clearing will finally take place this evening as the disturbance in the Gulf moves eastward.
THIS AFTERNOON: While most of Alabama is cloudy and cold for early November, the sky has cleared over the northwest corner of the state around Florence and Muscle Shoals. Temperatures are only in the 45-55 degree range; the average high for Birmingham on November 4 is 69.
RADAR CHECK: We have a large area of light rain across much of Central Alabama early this morning, but it will end over the next couple of hours. Clouds will linger, and the high today will be in the mid 50s, about 10-15 degrees below average for early November in Alabama. Clearing begins late tonight over the northwest corner of the state and parts of the Tennessee Valley, and that could result in some spots there seeing lows in the mid 30s early tomorrow with frost.
COOL AIR ROLLING INTO THE STATE: The cold front that passed through early this morning is bringing a nice shot of cool, dry air into Alabama this afternoon. Temperatures are only in the 68-73 degree range with fresh north breeze; the sky is partly sunny. Tonight will be clear and cool with a low in the 45-55 degree range. FYI… the last time Birmingham experience a low below 50 degrees was May 14 when the low was 49.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is widespread early this morning over East and South Alabama, with heavier thunderstorms moving along the Gulf Coast. Rain will end later this morning, and the rest of the day looks mostly dry with only isolated showers through tonight. Clouds will linger through the day, and temperatures over the northern half of the state will be about 15 to 20 degrees below average for mid-May with highs only in the low to mid 60s.
WET AT TIMES: A disturbance will bring some rain to Alabama over the next 48 hours. While a few sprinkles are possible today, most of the daytime hours will be dry… clouds will increase with a high in the upper 60s. Rain is likely at times tonight and tomorrow morning; heaviest rain will come over Southwest Alabama where a flash flood watch remains in effect for Mobile and Washington counties.
QUIET AFTERNOON: As advertised, the sky has become mostly sunny across North and Central Alabama this afternoon with temperatures around 70 degrees. Clouds linger over the southern counties, but there is nothing there on radar. The weather will be cool and dry statewide tonight… temperatures will drop into the mid 40s over the northern half of the state.
