Rain Ends Early Today; Sun By Afternoon

RADAR CHECK: Bands of showers and thunderstorms are moving across Alabama early this morning; as expected we have not had any issues with severe storms, but gradient winds are strong (not related to thunderstorms)… gusting to 30 mph at times. Rain will end from west to east early this morning, and the sky will be sunny by late morning or early afternoon. Temperatures are mild this morning; in fact near 70 degrees at places like Tuscaloosa and Muscle Shoals at daybreak, but they will fall through the 60s today with a brisk west wind.

Clearing Tonight; Dry Weekend Ahead

A STATE DIVIDED: For those in West Alabama, most of this day has been bright and sunny with temperatures in the 50s this afternoon. However, for the eastern two-thirds of the state, it has been a cloudy, cold, and wet day as a cold core upper low moves overhead. Rain continues this afternoon mainly along and east of I-65, where temperatures are only in the mid 40s.

DRIER AIR ROLLS IN LATER TODAY: Lingering showers across Alabama this morning will end soon, and we expect clearing by midday, with sunshine in full force this afternoon as dry air takes over. The high will be close to 70 degrees; the average high for October 16 at Birmingham is 75.

GRADUAL CLEARING: Clouds cover a decent part of Alabama early this morning, but we will forecast gradual clearing today as drier air works into the state. Clouds could linger much of the day over the eastern counties of the state, however, and a few showers are possible over Southeast Alabama. Today will be cooler with a high between 60 and 65 degrees.

Showers Ending; Long Dry Spell Ahead

CALMER DAY: We still have a few lingering showers across North/Central Alabama early this morning; those will end over the next few hours, and by afternoon rain will be confined to the southern half of the state. The sky becomes partly sunny, and today will be cooler with a high in the 60-65 degree range.

SOAKED: Widespread rain has ended from Birmingham north and west… lingering light rain over East Alabama will end soon as cooler, drier air continues to roll into the state. Many communities are reporting rain totals from one two inches today.

CLEARING CONTINUES: The sky is now mostly sunny over most of Alabama; the exception is Northeast Alabama, where clouds are still hanging on at mid-afternoon. Temperatures remain below average… where clouds are still in place temperatures are in the 30s, we are seeing 40s and low 50s elsewhere. The remaining cloud cover should dissipate tonight.

BRIGHTER THIS AFTERNOON: A layer of status have been very persistent across Alabama over the past few days, and they are still hanging over the state early this morning. But, subsidence should take over later today as the sky becomes partly sunny, and we project a high around 50 degrees this afternoon. Tonight will be clear and cold with a low near the freezing mark, and tomorrow will feature a partly to mostly sunny sky with a high in the mid to upper 50s.

Nice Chance For Alabama To Dry Out In Coming Days

SHOWERS ON THE WAY OUT: A deep upper low is moving over North Alabama this afternoon, and under the cold pool aloft we have a few lingering showers on radar over the eastern counties of the state. But, there are scattered pockets of sunshine, and most of South Alabama is enjoying a sunny afternoon. Showers will end this evening, and dry air moves into the state tonight with a clearing sky.

CLEARING THIS MORNING: We have a few a lingering sprinkles on radar early this morning in the wake of a cold front that passed through a few hours ago; those will end soon and the sky will clear this morning. Everyone will be in bright sunshine by afternoon, and temperatures will be cooler today with highs generally in the 50s. Tonight will be clear and cold; we will be very close to freezing early tomorrow morning.

SUNSHINE RETURNS LATER TODAY: A weakening band of storms is pushing through Central and East Alabama this morning… the tornado watch that was in effect much of the night has been cancelled for all counties as of 5:30 a.m. There is a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe storms for parts of Southeast Alabama later today, but the overall threat there is low.

CLOUDS ON THE WAY OUT: The sky is clearing across the great state of Alabama this afternoon; most of West Alabama is enjoying a sunny sky, and the lingering clouds over the eastern counties will be gone soon. Temperatures are way below average; readings are mostly in the upper 40s and low 50s at mid-afternoon… the average high for November 2 at Birmingham is 70.

THIS AFTERNOON: As expected, clouds are hanging tough across much of Alabama this afternoon… the exception is the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama where the sun is shining brightly. Temperatures under the clouds are in the 60s.

ON THE MAPS: A surface front is creeping southward through Central Alabama this morning; drier air will move into North Alabama today with humidity values coming down a bit… any showers or storms this afternoon will come over the southern half of the state, and even there they should be pretty widely scattered. Lingering clouds this morning will give way to a partly sunny afternoon, and the high will be between 79 and 82 for most communities.
