RADAR CHECK: A fairly large area of light rain is creeping into West Alabama early this morning… otherwise clouds cover most of the state at daybreak with temperatures around 70 degrees. The surface front that was initially expected be near U.S. 80 this morning is still near the Tennessee state line, so we will need to delay the clearing forecast until late today and tonight. Clouds will hang tough much of the day today with some light rain possible… temperatures will hold in the 70s much of the day.

RADAR CHECK: A weather disturbance is brining some patchy light rain to the southern half of Alabama this morning… rain is seen as far north as Nation, Clanton, and Rockford. This rain will move out of the state later this morning, otherwise today will be mostly cloudy with a high in the 50-54 degree range. The sky will begin to clear over the northwest counties of the state this afternoon, and tonight will be clear and colder with a low in the 20s.

CLOUDS HANGING TOUGH: While there are some breaks in the overcast across Alabama this afternoon, the sky is generally cloudy. The cloud cover is keeping temperatures in the 68-72 degree range for most places, so no new record highs today (Birmingham’s record high today is 73 set in 1984). We are seeing a few showers over the southwest part of the state, but most communities are dry. Clouds will thicken tonight, and showers are possible after midnight as a cold front slowly approaches.

RADAR CHECK: Rain is widespread this morning over East Alabama early this morning, generally east of a line from Fort Payne to Gadsden to Talladega to Alexander City. This rain shield is on the west side of the circulation of Tropical Depression Fred, which is moving into Georgia north of Columbus. The rain over East Alabama will taper off by mid to late morning… otherwise today will feature more clouds than sun over the northern half of Alabama with just a few scattered showers this afternoon.

CLOUDS FOR SOME, SUN FOR SOME: The northern half of Alabama is covered in clouds this afternoon with some patchy light rain, but the southern half of the state is enjoying a bright, sunny day. Temperatures under the cloud cover are in the upper 40s and low to mid 50s, but we are looking at 60s over South Alabama where the sun is out. The clouds over North Alabama will move out tonight, and all of Alabama should enjoy a good supply of sunshine tomorrow.

RADAR CHECK: We have lingering patches of light rain over the eastern half of Alabama this afternoon; the snow has needed over the northern and western counties. Some of the heaviest snow this morning was over Pickens, Lamar, Fayette, Marion, and Winston counties, where a few spots saw two to three inches. The rain moves out of the state this evening, but clouds linger tonight.
