Increasing strong to severe storm development appears likely across west central through northern Georgia, including the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan area, by 5-6 PM EDT. Trends are being monitored for the possibility of a severe weather watch.
At midday on this Sunday afternoon, we have a good bit of clear skies across Central Alabama, but clouds are starting to move back in from the west and skies will become mostly cloudy later this afternoon and into the evening.
At 10:13 AM CDT, Doppler Radar Was Tracking Strong Thunderstorms Along A Line Extending From Veasey Creek Park To Near Sturkie. Movement Was Northeast At 50 Mph. Pea Size Hail And Wind Gusts Up To 50 Mph Will Be Possible With These Storms.
Widely scattered strong to severe storms will overspread the region through midday, particularly across areas south through southeast of the Atlanta metro area, accompanied by the risk for damaging wind gusts and a couple of tornadoes.
At 9:52 AM CDT, Doppler Radar Was Tracking Strong Thunderstorms Along A Line Extending From Near Buffalo To Near Lafayette To Near Waverly. Movement Was Northeast At 50 Mph. Pea Size Hail And Wind Gusts Up To 50 Mph Will Be Possible With These Storms.
At 9:09 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Phenix City, moving northeast at 40 mph.
NWS Birmingham has extended the tornado watch for Barbour, Bullock, Chambers, Lee, Macon, Pike, Randolph, Russell, and Tallapoosa counties until 10:00 am.
At 8:40 AM CDT, Doppler Radar Was Tracking A Strong Thunderstorm Over Mars Hills, Or 12 Miles Southeast Of Piedmont, Moving Northeast At 55 Mph. Pea Size Hail And Winds In Excess Of 40 Mph Will Be Possible With This Storm.
As of 8:25 am, we only have one severe storm in the state and it is a tornado warned storm for Barbour and Russel counties until 8:30 am.
At 8:21 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Hurtsboro, moving northeast at 50 mph.
At 8:15 AM CDT, Doppler Radar Was Tracking A Strong Thunderstorm Near Delta, Or 11 Miles Southeast Of Oxford, Moving Northeast At 55 Mph. Pea Size Hail And Winds In Excess Of 40 Mph Will Be Possible With This Storm.
At 8:13 AM CDT, Doppler Radar Was Tracking A Strong Thunderstorm Over Fredonia, Or Near Stroud, Moving Northeast At 50 Mph. Winds In Excess Of 40 Mph Will Be Possible With This Storm.
At 8:02 AM CDT, Doppler Radar Was Tracking A Strong Thunderstorm Over Lineville, Moving Northeast At 60 Mph. Pea Size Hail And Winds In Excess Of 40 Mph Will Be Possible With This Storm.
At 8:00 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Barbour County Public Lake Dam, or near Midway, moving northeast at 45 mph.
